Quick Summary
Looking for luxury Florence wedding invitations? Babooche Calligraphy created a completely bespoke stationery suite for Francesca and Nicholas’s Villa Corsini destination wedding — white handmade paper with deckled edges, blush pink letterpress border featuring the villa’s classical garden statues, gold foil calligraphy, a hand illustrated watercolour fresco ceiling envelope liner, die cut ornate RSVP card and a hand illustrated save the date with venue illustration. A suite designed to honour one of Florence’s most extraordinary venues and five centuries of Medici heritage.
The Venue
A Villa Built for a Wedding
The Medici Legacy at Villa Corsini a Mezzomonte
There are wedding venues, and then there are places that exist because of weddings. Villa Corsini a Mezzomonte belongs to the second and far rarer category. Perched on the first rolling hills of Chianti just outside Florence, this extraordinary villa was built as a gift to celebrate the wedding of Prince Giovan Carlo de’ Medici. It has been welcoming celebrations ever since.
Owned for generations by the noble houses of Medici and Corsini, the villa is adorned with frescoes painted by Florentine masters — including the breathtaking ceiling of the Galleria del Pandolfo Sacchi, which would become the direct inspiration for one of the most extraordinary details in Francesca and Nicholas’s invitation suite.
For an American couple choosing to marry in Florence, this was not simply a beautiful venue. It was a living monument to five centuries of Italian art, patronage and celebration — the kind of place that demands stationery worthy of its walls.

“Built as a gift for a Medici wedding — and still celebrating love five centuries later.”

Why this matters for your stationery: When your venue houses masterpiece frescoes and five centuries of Medici heritage, your invitations must do more than announce a date. They must introduce guests to a world and make them feel, before they ever board a flight, that something truly extraordinary awaits them in Florence.
The Inspiration
Designing Florence Wedding Invitations Inspired by Five Centuries of Art
Drawing Directly from the Villa’s Own Walls
The most powerful bespoke stationery does not reference the internet for inspiration — it goes directly to the source. For Francesca and Nicholas’s Florence wedding invitations, every design decision was informed by Villa Corsini itself. The classical statues standing in the villa’s gardens became the letterpress border on the invitation. The extraordinary octagonal fresco ceiling of the Galleria del Pandolfo Sacchi became the hand illustrated watercolour liner inside every envelope. The soft blush tones of the frescoed walls became the colour palette.
The result was a suite that did not merely reference Florence — it was Florence, translated into paper and ink and gold.

The Colour Palette
Blush Pink
Drawn from the soft warm tones of the villa’s frescoed interiors — the colour of aged plaster and Renaissance pigment. Used for the letterpress border and classical statue illustrations throughout the suite.
Dusty Blue
The colour of the Florentine sky in October and the cool mineral tones found throughout the Galleria del Pandolfo Sacchi ceiling fresco. Used for the save the date envelope and the main invitation envelope.
Dusty Rose
A deeper, more complex rose tone used for the die cut RSVP card and the hand tied silk tassel — adding warmth and depth to the palette without competing with the softness of the blush and blue.
Gold
Gold foil for the calligraphy text and bespoke monogram — a direct reference to the gilded details woven through the villa’s frescoes and the golden light of Tuscany in autumn.
White and Nude
White handmade paper for the invitation and nude handmade paper for the outer envelope — the natural deckled edges of both papers echoing the organic hand crafted quality that defines the finest Italian artisan traditions.
This is how bespoke stationery should always begin — not with a mood board assembled from Pinterest, but with a deep study of the actual venue, its art, its architecture and its history. The invitation becomes a natural extension of the place itself.
The Save the Date
A Hand Illustrated First Impression
When the First Piece of Post Sets the Tone for Everything
For an American couple planning a destination wedding in Florence, the save the date carries a significance that goes far beyond reserving a date in a diary. It is the very first time guests understand what they are being invited into. It needs to stop them in their tracks, communicate the scale of the occasion, and make them feel something before they have even read the words.
For Francesca and Nicholas, we created a save the date that did exactly that — letterpress printed on luxury cotton card stock with a bespoke hand illustrated venue illustration of Villa Corsini itself as the centrepiece.

The Details
Paper
Luxury cotton card stock with a beautiful natural feel — substantial and tactile, communicating quality from the very first touch.
Venue Illustration
A bespoke hand illustrated depiction of Villa Corsini printed in dusty blue letterpress ink — the villa’s distinctive architecture captured with architectural accuracy and artistic warmth. Guests seeing this illustration would immediately understand the beauty of what awaited them in Florence.
Letterpress Printing
The venue illustration and all text letterpress printed — creating a tactile impression in the card that guests could feel with their fingertips as well as see with their eyes.
The Envelope
Enclosed in a dusty blue handmade paper envelope lined with a hand illustrated watercolour depiction of the Galleria del Pandolfo Sacchi fresco ceiling at Villa Corsini — so that even the act of opening the envelope became a moment of discovery and delight.
When guests in the United States opened this envelope and found a hand illustrated painting of an Italian villa ceiling looking back at them, the message was clear before a single word was read: this is going to be one of the most beautiful weddings you will ever attend.
The Invitation
The Main Invitation Card
Where Handmade Paper Meets Artisan Letterpress
The main invitation card was the centrepiece of the entire suite. Printed on white handmade paper with a natural deckled edge, it combined the warmth of artisan materials with the precision of traditional letterpress printing and the luminosity of gold foil — a combination that feels entirely at home in the city that gave the world the Renaissance.
Every element of the invitation was a direct conversation with the venue. The blush pink letterpress border featured the classical garden statues of Villa Corsini — the same figures that would stand over the ceremony terrace on the wedding day, wreathed in roses against the golden Chianti hills.

The Suite
The Complete Florence Wedding Invitation Suite
Every piece in the suite was designed to work together as a single cohesive story — from the save the date that first carried Villa Corsini into American letterboxes, to the die cut RSVP card that guests returned weeks later. Each element carried the same palette, the same artisan sensibility and the same deep connection to the venue and its history.

When every piece of a stationery suite is designed with this level of intention and connection to the venue, something extraordinary happens. The suite stops being a collection of cards and becomes a single unified work of art — one that tells the story of the wedding before the wedding has even begun.
The Destination
Why American Couples Choose a Florence Destination Wedding
The Birthplace of the Renaissance
Florence is not simply a beautiful city. It is the place where the modern world’s understanding of art, beauty and human potential was born. For over five hundred years, the greatest painters, sculptors and architects on earth were drawn here — commissioned by the Medici, the Corsini and the other noble families whose patronage transformed this corner of Tuscany into the cradle of Western civilisation.
For American couples who want a destination wedding that goes beyond beautiful scenery, Florence offers something far deeper. Every street, every palazzo, every fresco ceiling tells a story of human creativity at its most ambitious. And the hills of Chianti surrounding the city offer intimate privately owned villas where that history lives and breathes in the most personal and extraordinary way.

Art and Architecture Everywhere
Florence’s villas are not purpose-built event spaces. They are centuries old private residences filled with original frescoes, antique furniture and the accumulated beauty of generations. Every room, every garden, every terrace has a story. Your wedding becomes part of that story.
Complete Exclusivity
Villa Corsini is given exclusively to one event at a time — complete privacy for you and your guests. The entire villa, its gardens, its frescoed rooms and its extraordinary views are yours alone for the duration of your celebration.
The Chianti Landscape
The first rolling hills of Chianti just outside Florence offer some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the world — vineyards turning gold in October, cypress trees cutting dark lines against the sky, ancient stone farmhouses among the olive groves. A backdrop that no photographer could ever fully capture and no guest could ever forget.
A Multi Day Celebration
When guests travel from the United States for your wedding, a single day celebration is never enough. Florence lends itself naturally to a full weekend — arriving to explore the city, a Friday welcome dinner in a frescoed room, Saturday ceremony and reception in the gardens, a Sunday farewell brunch with the Chianti hills glowing in the morning light.
Your Stationery Should Match the Setting
A destination as extraordinary as Florence deserves Florence wedding invitations that honour it fully. Handmade paper, artisan letterpress, bespoke illustrations and hand finished details are not indulgences here — they are necessities. Your stationery is the first chapter of your wedding story and it should be written with the same care and intention as everything that follows.

The Wedding Day
When the Stationery Became Reality
Saturday, 23rd October 2021 — Villa Corsini, Florence
On the day itself, every design decision we had made in the studio found its context. The classical statues on the invitation border were now standing over the ceremony terrace in full scale, draped in cascading blush and deep red roses, the golden Chianti vineyards stretching away behind them. The fresco ceiling we had illustrated in miniature on the envelope liner was now arching overhead in the reception room, its painted figures and gilded details glowing in the candlelight.
This is what bespoke stationery does at its very best — it creates a thread of continuity that runs from the first envelope a guest opens in their home, all the way through to the last moment of the wedding day. Everything connected. Everything intentional. Everything telling one story.

The ceremony took place in the villa’s extraordinary garden terrace — ancient stone, formal hedges, the lily pond catching the late afternoon light and the Chianti vineyards turning gold in the October sun. Guests who had seen Villa Corsini illustrated on their save the date months earlier now stood within it, surrounded by the same architectural beauty that had inspired every detail of their stationery.
The reception moved inside to Villa Corsini’s frescoed hall — the same ceiling whose octagonal masterpiece had been hand illustrated in watercolour and tucked inside every invitation envelope. Now guests dined beneath it, surrounded by the painted figures of Florentine masters, crystal candelabras casting warm light across long tables dressed in blush and coral florals.
“Everything connected. Everything intentional. Everything telling one story.”
When the stationery and the venue speak the same visual language — when every illustration, every colour, every material choice has been drawn directly from the place where the wedding will unfold — the result is a celebration that feels completely and utterly of one piece. That is what Babooche Calligraphy creates for every couple we work with.
Your Questions Answered
Frequently Asked Questions
What makes Florence wedding invitations different from standard luxury stationery?
The finest Florence wedding invitations are not simply elegant stationery with an Italian reference — they are designed from the venue itself outward. At Babooche Calligraphy we study the architecture, the frescoes, the garden statues and the colour palette of your specific venue before a single design decision is made. The result is stationery that could only ever belong to your wedding, at your venue, in your city.
How far in advance should I commission stationery for a Florence destination wedding?
We recommend beginning your stationery plans around eight to twelve months before your wedding date. For a Florence destination wedding, save the dates are typically sent eight to twelve months in advance, while the full invitation suite is usually sent around twelve to sixteen weeks before the wedding. Bespoke illustration, specialist printing and hand finishing all require time, so booking early allows the design process to unfold without being rushed.
Can you create a hand illustrated venue illustration for our Italian villa wedding stationery?
Absolutely — and it is one of the most powerful elements we can create for a destination wedding suite. A bespoke hand illustrated venue illustration transforms your stationery from beautiful into genuinely irreplaceable. For Francesca and Nicholas we created both a venue illustration for the save the date and a hand illustrated watercolour depiction of the villa’s extraordinary fresco ceiling for the envelope liner. Every illustration is created from scratch and belongs entirely to you.
What printing techniques work best for Italian villa wedding invitations?
Letterpress is our first recommendation — the tactile impression it creates in handmade paper is impossible to replicate digitally and immediately communicates the level of artisan craftsmanship that a historic Italian villa demands. Gold foil stamping adds luminosity and warmth. Blind embossing creates subtle texture that rewards close attention. And hand finishing with wax seals, silk tassels and calligraphy addressing elevates the entire suite into something truly heirloom quality.
Do you ship wedding stationery to the United States?
Yes, we ship worldwide. We have extensive experience working with American couples planning destination weddings in Italy and across Europe, and manage all international shipping logistics as part of our service. We can ship finished suites directly to you in the United States or to your venue in Italy, whichever works best for your timeline and plans.
Can you create stationery for other Italian villa venues?
Absolutely. We create bespoke wedding stationery for couples marrying at Italian villas across Florence, Tuscany and beyond — from Lake Como and the Amalfi Coast to Rome and the Venetian countryside. Every suite begins with a deep study of your specific venue. Whatever the villa, whatever the city, your stationery will be designed to honour it completely.
